Natalie MacMaster & Great Big Sea: Saturday, August 21st

Natalie MacMaster is a well-known musician on both the Folk and Celtic musical scenes. Natalie is a fiddler from Cape Breton, and she has performed with many brilliant artists, such as Alison Krauss, the Chieftains, Paul Simon, and Pavarotti. Natalie and her exceptional band are known to hypnotize a crowd with traditional and contemporary Celtic melodies.

Great Big Sea: The St. John’s-based band, with a musical twist of traditional Newfoundland music and modern pop. The band uses a blend of instruments like mandolin, bodhran, fiddle, and concertina, along with beautiful vocals. Great Big Sea has many devoted fans that have been following them since their self-titled debut in 1993. All of their albums have gone gold, and most are multi-platinum.

On Saturday, August 21st, MacMaster will be performing at Suicide Six in South Pomfret, Vermont. Show begins at 5:30 pm on Saturday.

Pentangle’s spring benefit brings Grammy Winner, Paula Cole, to Woodstock’s very own Town Hall Theater. Cole is well known for her top ten hit “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone,” and her hit single, “I Don’t Wanna Wait,” which reached #11 on the charts and became the hit theme song for the TV series Dawson’s Creek. Cole returned in 2007 with her album “Courage” and continues to write and produce works of musical art. Her next Decca Records is to be released this summer!
Cole is performing at the Woodstock Town Hall Theater at 7:30 PM on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010. Reserved seats for this show are $35. Director’s Circle tickets are $85, which includes premier seating and a pre-show reception with Paula at the Blue Horse Inn with hors d-oeuvres, drinks and a raffle followed by the concert.

Hood Museum Of Art

Come visit the Hood Museum of Art in Dartmouth, New Hampshire. The museum is free and open to the public. There are a wide variety of things to do when you visit the Hood, both inside the museum and outside. From the vast selections of American, European, ancient, Oceanic, African, and Native American art on the first floor of the museum to the ever-changing exhibitions and contemporary art highlights on the second floor. There is something for every interest.
Current exhibitions include:

Susan Meiselas, best known for her work covering the political upheavals in Central America in the 1970s and 80s, is one of the most socially engaged photographers of our time.

Art That Lives? Exploring Figural Art from Africa: This exhibition examines the complex ways that African people view images, especially images of depictions of the human form, as forces that impact personal experience.

A Space for Dialogue–Fresh Perspectives on the Permanent Collection from Dartmouth’s Students: This is a unique opportunity within Dartmouth’s senior internship program, which includes museum positions in curatorial, public relations, and educational work.

José Clemente Orozco–The Epic of American Civilization: It is an extensive mural painting created by Mexican artist José Clemente Orozco between 1932 and 1934. The mural is composed of twenty-four distinct panels depicting the history of the Americas from the Aztec migration into Mexico to the industrialization of modern society.

Don Giovanni - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: This opera is also sung in Italian with English supertitles. Don Giovanni is set in Spain in the 1600’s. Don Giovanni, a libertine, is assisted by his long-suffering servant, Leporello, in his campaign of seduction and dissolution.

WESTON PLAYHOUSE THEATER

This summer, the Weston Playhouse Theater Company fills the MainStage with entertainment. The MainStage will host Alfred Hitchcock‘s, “The 39 Steps,” Tony Award winning musical, “Avenue Q,” baseball classic, “Damn Yankees,” and Arthur Miller’s, “Death of a Salesman.” Come visit the Weston Playhouse and join us in re-living the classics.
